Battles

Beowulf Vs Grendel

Grendel, the monster that was continuously attacking King Hrothgar's hall at night. He took action because of the loud noises. He was defeated by Beowulf because of the task King Hrothgar assigned to him. Due to his pride, Beowulf uses nothing but his bare hands to lure Grendel into the hall and rip off his arm making him flee back to his swamp. Eventually after running away Grendel wails out to his mother to help but dies soon after.

In some films and other adaptions, the battles are slightly different however the outcome for them is still the same and doesn't drastically change the story.

Beowulf Vs Grendel's Mother

Shortly after Grendel is murdered by Beowulf, his mother comes to avenge her son. She attacked the hall at night while Beowulf's warriors were sleeping as an act of revenge. Beowulf quickly responds by taking the task of slaying Grendel's mother from King Hrothgar. When Beowulf enters the cave, he instead accepts a contract from Grendel's mother instead of killing her. He returns to the kingdom with Grendel's head as a substitute and a cover up for not defeating his mother.

Beowulf Vs The Dragon

50 years later, a cup is found outside of the cave which causes the fire breathing dragon to burn villages, destroying homes and killing people in revenge. Beowulf decides to face the dragon himself although he knows how dangerous it was. Instead of fleeing he goes to battle even though the king isn't supposed to take part in any type of fighting. Beowulf finishes and kills the dragon while also taking himself down. Before he dies, he gives the thrown to closest friend Wiglaf while giving him the responsibility of taking care of the people. After the dragon was defeated, his true form was revealed right before Beowulf's eyes
